Guidance and Counseling Services
Our Guidance & Counseling Department's mission is to serve as an advocate for a positive and diverse learning environment that engages student, school, family, and community stakeholders as partners in the student learning process. Our mission supports the school's mission to focus on student improvement so that students may become lifelong learners and productive citizens in a global society.  In addition to essential counseling services, school counselors serve as student, school, and system support agents by aligning guidance curriculum with national, state, and county goals for improving student academic performance in all areas, to include improved performance on all standardized tests, continued 100% graduation rate, and Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP).   Based on the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) National Standards, students should demonstrate mastery in three competency areas: (1) academic development,  (2) career development, and (3) personal social development. Therefore school counselors  provide essential counseling services such as individual student planning and counseling, consultation, informational and instructional services, advocacy for student cognitive, social, self-management, and wholistic health needs, promote positive school climate, facilitate student testing and appraisal, data collection, test interpretation, teacher-in-service, community referrals and follow-up. School counselors are involved in coaching, advising, and nurturing students, to enhance opportunities  for student successes in effecting mature and positive psychosocial relationships, becoming better school citizens, participating in creative school and community service and leadership, selecting  and excelling in rigorous, relevant, and advanced course curriculum, honing study habits, work ethics and workforce readiness skills,  and exploring career opportunities and post-secondary options.  Our goal is to have a prominent role in producing confident, motivated , inquisitive, decisive, and critically literate scholars in a competitive, yet positive school culture, who make seamless transitions to each higher level of  academia and stage of life.   GUIDANCE AND COUNSELING STAFF/SUPPORT PERSONNEL Dr. Emma McCain & Mrs. Everlene Jordan:   School Counselors Mrs. Loretta Shelko:          Guidance Secretary Mrs. Valarie Richardson:  School Data Entry Clerk
